Thank you to all who attended March’s enrichment meeting at the Danville Golf Club!
Telly Tucker, Director of Economic Development for the City of Danville, spoke to our membership on March 22nd. Telly spoke about how Danville is investing in the River District by developing a walkable community of condo living, restaurants, and parks. Visible progress in the River District can be observed today!
Danville is also currently interested in attracting a variety of businesses to diversify our workforce and create a balance in economics and employment related to it. Being as Danville is situated near multiple big-name companies such as IKEA, ABB, and Goodyear (to name a few), we have a perfect opportunity to provide a streamlined workforce to all of these industries using programs like the Precision Machining program of Danville Community College (DCC).
Telly also spoke about how Danville is committed to investing in our youth by way of institutions like the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research. Using their Precision Machining facility in conjunction with dual credit hours for high school students and higher education DCC programs, Danville has a unique opportunity to provide a streamlined workforce trained using the most up-to-date equipment in a realistic setting that mimics those of companies like Rolls-Royce in Petersburg, VA. Most students are able to complete the program by age 20 with no student debt and in many cases, multiple great-paying job offers!
We are excited to see the growth in our area continue and see Telly’s work continue to do great things for our region! Thank you for speaking with our membership, Telly!
Thank you to all who attended our February member enrichment meeting at the Danville Golf Club on the 22nd!
Kyle Slosek, a Senior Cybersecurity Consultant specializing in Ethical Hacking and Penetration Testing with Leidos Cyber, Inc., spoke to our membership about password best practices and online safety. Since REALTORS® are constantly in possession of sensitive information, it is imperative that they practice sound password practices and consider tips for better online safety. Thanks, Kyle, for your very enlightening presentation!
Remember the following tips when considering your passwords:
Use long passwords (at least 12 characters)
Use a variety of characters – uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters
Consider passphrases instead of passwords
Make your passwords unique – do NOT reuse passwords across your accounts!
Use the PAO (person – action – object) method
Use two-factor authentication, when available
Ensure your security question answers are not public information – stick to questions like “what’s your favorite food” or “what’s your favorite movie”

February 13th – 15th was a fun time for REALTORS® and their local association staff in Richmond! DRRAR was well represented at this year’s Virginia REALTORS® Economic and Advocacy Summit. Special guest speakers included Dr. Lawrence Yun, Ph.D., Chief Economist from the National Association of REALTORS®. His very enlightening presentation covered Economic & Real Estate Outlook for 2018, which covered President Trump’s Tax Reform and how it is predicted to affect the housing market in the future. He also touched on data trends in the housing market pertaining to first-time home ownership, home sales, mortgage rates, etc. Click hereto see Dr. Yun’s slides from his presentation on February 14th, 2018.
The other guest speaker, Stephen Moret, President & CEO at Virginia Economic Development Partnership, spoke about the business state of Virginia by discussing where we’ve been, where we are now, and where the new administration wants to go.
